Why parents choose EV Dance for kids dance classes in Singapore
We’re a kids-first studio. That sounds obvious, but in Singapore most dance studios are built around adult open classes with kids classes tacked on. EV Dance is the opposite — we built the studio around kids first, with our adult open classes added later.
What that means in practice:
- Coaches selected and trained for working with kids, not just adults
- Class sizes capped at 15 — every kid gets attention
- NAC-AEP and MOE approved — the credentials parents actually want
- Free Dance Journal, EV Calendar, and Year-End Video Memento with every term enrolment
- Master Trainer JJ Chan holds 22 international certifications including CSTD Hip Hop, Royal Academy of Dance Ballet, and MOE Approved Instructor
You won’t find another Singapore dance studio with this depth of credential coverage for kids.
Dance styles we teach for kids
EV Dance offers 8 dance styles for kids — more than almost any single studio in Singapore. Your child can specialise early or sample several before deciding what fits.
Hip Hop
Foundational urban dance — groove, body isolations, rhythm, freestyle. Hip hop teaches kids how to find their own movement vocabulary while building coordination and confidence.
Suitable from age 6. Most beginner kids start with Mini Hoppers (ages 4-7) before transitioning into structured hip-hop classes.
K-Pop
Sharp choreography, group sync, performance presence. K-pop is where many kids ages 8-14 find their dance entry point — they already love the songs, they want to learn the moves. We teach age-appropriate choreography (not adult class moves with kids in them).
Read our parent guide: K-Pop Dance for Kids vs Adults — Is It Right for Your Child?
Modern Dance
The flagship CCA dance style in Singapore schools, taught at MOE primary and secondary modern dance CCAs across the country. Strong technique foundation, expressive choreography, performance-ready.
If your daughter is in a Modern Dance CCA at school, our studio classes complement and extend her school training.
Ballet Foundations
Classical ballet vocabulary — battement, plié, pirouette — taught as foundation for our modern and contemporary curriculum. Not a pure RAD-graded ballet pathway (for that, we recommend specialist ballet schools), but ideal for kids who want ballet technique alongside other dance styles.

Jazz & Contemporary
Lyrical, expressive, technique-driven. Many of our SYF Distinction-winning students train in jazz and contemporary alongside their modern dance CCA. Strong cross-training for any dancer aiming at higher-level work.
Waacking
A dramatic, arms-led dance style with theatrical roots. Less common in kids studios but a favourite for kids who love expressive movement. JJ is a certified waacking instructor with international training.
Creative Movement (Ages 4-6)
Pre-dance for the youngest students. Locomotor skills, spatial awareness, basic rhythm, following group instruction. The bridge from “moving around the house” to “structured class”.

Locking, Bboy, House
For older kids (10+) who want street-dance foundations beyond hip-hop. These are taught in our advanced kids and teen classes.

What’s included with every term enrolment
We deliberately bundle things other Singapore dance studios charge extra for:
- Printed Dance Journal — a named, illustrated journal with weekly reflection pages, term goals, and milestone trackers. Most kids keep theirs for years.
- EV Dance Calendar — annual themed calendar shipped to every enrolled student.
- End-of-Year Video Memento — a custom-choreographed video of your child’s class, professionally filmed and edited at our studio.
- Term Progress Report — written feedback from your child’s coach, focused on growth not grades.
- Dance Exposure Workshops — complimentary workshops in adjacent dance styles, so kids can sample before committing.
- Junior Star spotlight content (optional) — for selected students who want to be featured on EV Dance social and media.
These are real artifacts of your child’s dance journey — not just receipts for classes paid.

The first conversation is the best way to find out if EV Dance is right for your daughter. We’ll ask about her current dance experience, what she enjoys, what you’re hoping she’ll get out of dance classes — and we’ll be honest about whether our studio is the right fit.
If we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you and recommend studios that might be. We’d rather lose a trial booking than enrol a child who won’t thrive here.

Frequently asked questions
What age can my child start dance classes at EV Dance?
We accept children from age 4 in our Mini Hoppers (Creative Movement) programme. By age 6, kids transition into genre-specific Foundation classes (Hip Hop, K-Pop, Modern Dance).
Do I need to commit for a full term?
No. Trial classes are S$20 and you can decide after attending whether to commit to a term. We recommend trialling 2-3 classes before deciding — kids often need a few sessions to settle in.
What should my child wear to her first dance class?
For younger kids (4-9): comfortable t-shirt and leggings or shorts, hair tied back, bare feet. For older kids: same plus dance shoes if specified by the coach. Full guide: What to Expect at Your Child’s First Dance Class.
Is EV Dance NAC-AEP approved?
Yes. We are an NAC-AEP approved provider with multiple coded programmes across hip-hop, K-pop, jazz, hall assemblies, and dance enrichment. We are also MOE-ERIS registered. Read more: NAC-AEP Explained.
Can EV Dance prepare my child for DSA (Direct School Admission via dance)?
Yes. Our EV Elites / DSA Prep programme is designed for P5-P6 students preparing for DSA-Dance auditions at Singapore secondary schools. We’ve coached candidates accepted into MGS, NYGH, RGS, SCGS, Crescent, CHIJ schools and more.
My child is shy and nervous about dance class. Will she be okay?
Many of our most committed dancers started shy. We’ve deliberately built our beginner classes to ease anxious kids in — small class sizes, buddy systems, no public solo demonstrations in the first three weeks. Read our guide: How to Support a Shy Child in Their First Dance Class.
Where is EV Dance located?
EV Dance Studio is at 261 Waterloo Street, #03-09, Waterloo Centre, Singapore 180261 — a 5-minute walk from Bencoolen MRT and 10 minutes from Bugis MRT. Get directions and full studio info.
What if my child wants to dance competitively or perform?
We have dedicated pathways for kids who want more. EV Elites is our advanced track for kids who want to compete, perform, or prepare for DSA. Many of our SYF Distinction students started in our recreational Foundation classes and transitioned into Elites over time.
