Crescent Girls’ School (CGS) is one of the more accessible top-tier DSA-Dance routes — they accept candidates into both Chinese Dance and Modern Dance streams, and they place more weight than most schools on the character interview as part of the selection process.

What Crescent looks for

Crescent panellists tend to score on:

Threshold

Track record matters more than certificates. CCA experience strongly favoured. 3+ years of consistent training is typical for successful candidates.

Audition format

What to wear

Standard dance attire matching your stream — leotard for Modern, traditional or fitted attire for Chinese. Hair tied.

What we’ve observed

The interview is the differentiator at Crescent. Strong dancers who don’t articulate their motivation often don’t get offers. Be ready for: “Why Crescent?” “What would you contribute to the dance CCA?” “What do you do when something doesn’t go right in a performance?”

Crescent specifically watches for character traits beyond dance: resilience, teamwork, articulate self-reflection. The girls who succeed are often the ones who can talk about a specific setback in their dance journey and what they learned from it.

How EV Dance can help

Our Elites prep for Crescent includes interview practice as a core component — not just generic interview tips, but mock sessions modelled on Crescent’s panel style. We also tailor the prepared piece to suit your daughter’s strongest stream (Modern or Chinese) and her natural expressive style.
