Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS) accepts DSA-Dance candidates into its International Dance programme — a ballet-led syllabus that cross-trains in jazz and contemporary. The audition tests both technical depth and versatility.

What SCGS looks for

SCGS panellists typically score on three dimensions:

Threshold

The practical bar is RAD Grade 5 ballet or equivalent, with cross-style training (jazz, contemporary, or modern) as a positive differentiator.

Audition format

What to wear

Black leotard, ballet tights, ballet shoes for the ballet portion. A skirt may be acceptable for the contemporary section if the candidate wishes. Hair in a low bun.

What we’ve observed

SCGS auditions reward girls who are technically clean but also expressive. A flawless piece performed mechanically tends to score lower than a slightly less-polished piece performed with genuine musicality. Don’t sacrifice expression for safety.

The interview matters. SCGS girls who succeed in the dance audition but stumble in the interview sometimes don’t get the final offer. Practice answering: “How will you balance dance with your studies at SCGS?”

How EV Dance can help

EV Elites prep for SCGS includes ballet technique refinement (often the gap for dancers from non-classical backgrounds), cross-style combination drilling, prepared piece choreography, and 2-3 mock interview sessions with someone who has been through SCGS-style panels before.
